Trustee for Asia Pacific Region
Pene first joined the RLSS family in 2013, elected as President of Royal Life Saving Society Australia Tasmania (the upside-down triangle shaped island at the bottom or Australia!) – currently only the second woman to hold the position in the organisation’s 107-year history. Just two years later, she was elected as the National President; currently just the third female to hold the position in the 87-year history of the national association and only the second Tasmanian (nod to Sir Basil Osborne CBE who held the position from 1979 to 1987). Pene served three years as President, then a further three years as Deputy President.
Pene’s professional life has been focussed on media, communications, and community engagement roles across multiple government agencies in both Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Over a career spanning more than 35 years, Pene has held senior management roles in Australian government education and health sectors including four years as a senior adviser for a Minister of the Crown (providing policy advice on child protection and youth justice).
