The aim of Lifesaving Sport for All is to introduce a basic level of lifesaving sport for all ages based on skills education: gaining life saving knowledge, skills, and competence, and enhancing these skills through friendly competition. Sport for All can be delivered as a part of, or an extension to, a learn to swim or water safety programme – both in both a wet and dry environment!
Skills include:
- safety
- entering and exiting the water
- floating
- treading water
- swimming
- rescue from land by reaching and throwing
Lifesaving Sport for All is available for all ages and abilities as participants can choose which activities or events suit their interest, skills, and abilities.
Sport for All supports the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) key strategy of Drowning Prevention Development through Sport whereby RLSS will implement ‘lifesaving sport for all’ which facilitates broad participation for all its member organisations and for Commonwealth nations.
Lifesaving sport contributes to RLSS’s mission by engaging and inspiring people in our humanitarian mission. The RLSS Lifesaving Sport for All Guide, that was launched on 5 February 2025, is available here.
RLSS encourages those users of the Lifesaving Sport for All guide to provide feedback so we can continue to improve the guide and participation in lifesaving sport.
