Lifesaving in Cyprus originally started in 1945 under the control of the Royal Life Saving Society. The first lifesavers were members of the police and fire service.
The Cyprus Life Saving Federation was established in 1993 and is governed by an eight member central committee that is elected and represents the regional clubs.
