Appointed Trustee – Canada  

Dr. Beerman was a family physician in Nanaimo, Canada for 34 years until he retired from this role in 2021.  Dr. Beerman is also a University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Medicine, Clinical Professor in the Dept of Family Medicine. These medical educational leadership roles were well served by his strong passion for resident wellness, educational effectiveness, and learner respect. The Doctor of British Columbia honored Dr Beerman with their Dr David Bishop Gold Medal for Distinguished Medical Service in 2020.  

Dr Beerman is lifelong learner and contributor to drowning prevention efforts in Canada and internationally.  He is a Past-President of the Lifesaving Society – Canada and of the International Life Saving Federation.  He is currently the Co-Chair of the Canadian Drowning Prevention Coalition. He has been an advisor and contributor to many publications and educational efforts, including the World Health Organization Global Report on Drowning and the RLSS Fatal Drowning in Commonwealth Countries Fact Sheet.  As an Appointed Trustee for RLSS, his focus is on Advocacy. His lifelong contribution to lifesaving and drowning prevention was recently acknowledged with the RLSS King Edward VII Cup.
