Earlier in 2023, the RLSS launched a scholarship programme that would support a youngster from one of our member organisations to attend and present at the World Conference on Drowning Prevention which was held in Perth, Australia earlier this month.
Geh Cheow Mei from Malaysia was awarded a scholarship after her abstract ‘A study to assess the public knowledge on climate change which linked to drowning in Malaysia’ was accepted.
Reflecting on her experience, Cheow Mei said “being able to attend the World Conference in Drowning Prevention 2023 in Perth, Australia under the RLSS scholarship was an eye-opening experience. Throughout the conference, I was surrounded by the global community that are dedicated to water safety and drowning prevention. This experience has broadened my understanding and deepened my commitment to drowning prevention research. I am grateful for the opportunity in which I have gained lots of knowledge and connections.”
We are delighted to have been able to support Cheow Mei and look forward to seeing her work, and working with her, in the future.
