In late 2024, the RLSS Board of Trustees approved the creation of the RLSS Research Honour—an award established to recognise outstanding drowning prevention researchers whose work has significantly influenced the Society and contributed to our global drowning prevention mission.
We are delighted to announce that this inaugural honour is being awarded to Dr Olive Kobusingye from Uganda, Dr Gordon Giesbrecht from Canada and Dr Fazlur Rahman from Bangladesh. Our congratulations to them all on this truly deserved recognition of their contributions to the drowning prevention research field.
Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing a series of short videos on our social media featuring each of our award recipients. In these clips, they’ll share:
How they became involved in drowning prevention
The standout aspect of their research
The key unanswered questions in the field
Their advice for anyone wishing to enter into the research field
These stories highlight the passion, innovation, and dedication driving progress in drowning prevention.
